August 2008: MSI Founder Named Boston College Alumni Award Recipient
The Boston College Alumni Association named MSI founder, Brendan Kennealey, the recipient of a 2008 Alumni Award of Excellence. To read more about the award please visit the Boston College Alumni website.
July 2008: Rwandan Government Donates 21 Acres to MSI
The Rwandan government has donated 21 acres of land to MSI for its first school in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda. Rwinkwavu is a village in the country's poorest province and is located two hours east of the capital city, Kigali.
This gift was a sign of the strong partnership between MSI, the Ministry of Education, and local Rwandan government officials. The school will operate similarly to charter schools in the U.S. in that it will be a public facilities, but will be owned and managed by MSI. This type of partnership will help ensure an exceptional quality of education for students in greatest need and will help build capacity within the Rwandan Ministry of Education.
April 2008: Harvard Business School to Highlight MSI at 100th Anniversary Gala
On April 5, 2008 Harvard Business School celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Fidelity Investments Clubhouse at Gillette Stadium. Mission Schools International was highlighted in a slideshow during the event as an exceptional organization where Harvard Business School graduates are dedicating their time, energy, and resources. MSI founder, Brendan Kennealey is a graduate of Harvard Business School and has been consistently supported by classmates, professors, and alumni of HBS.
March 2008: MSI awarded 501c3 status
On March 7, 2008 Mission Schools International received its 501c3 status from the IRS. This officially recognizes MSI as a non-profit organization and allows all donations to MSI to be tax deductable. MSI is very grateful to Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP in Boston for their pro bono legal services which made this possible.
April 2008: MSI fundraiser at Harvard Club in New York
Mission Schools International will host its inaugural fundraiser at the Harvard Club of New York on April 22, 2008 from 7pm – 9pm. The evening will include a short presentation by MSI founder, Brendan Kennealey.
